Shoulder check, shoulder check, shoulder check and then parallel park. It's easy! Also take the test in an automatic car.

They don't give tests in automatic cars. Nor does my dad have one.

I would like to see a really hard written and practical exam, be cause in this country the exam is... stupidly easy or you can buy a false license.
In the next year I have to renew my license (I have a license but not a car...-_-).

It's pretty hard in Europe. At least, in Western Europe. Ridiculously expensive as well.

    Job:
On my first driving test I accidentally sped through a school zone. Don't do that. In my defense, though, I'm pretty sure the driving instructor only THOUGHT it was a school zone. There was no sign, and it was at the very end of the street the school zone was actually on. That same driving instructor also recognized someone he knew and made me pull over so he could talk to him.

On my second test, I was really nervous because of what happened the first time, so on one of the turns, the instructor (this time a woman who was WAY nicer than the other dude) told me to go right, and I went left. I did end up passing that one, though.

I got lucky, my parents didn't have time to teach me so I got to take lessons from an actual instructor :)

    passed it first time

totally worth the effort though, makes life way easier

I think it's fine to be hard and expensive, you have something that could kill yourself or someone (In summer 2008/9, cars accidents where the main focus of the news... Youngsters driving at high speed, not a good idea).

Hard yes, expensive no. Not everyone has 4000 dollars lying around for lessons. Not to mention the price of the exam and learning material. Now that having a license and a car is pretty much a requirement to get anywhere or even a job, having expensive lessons is just a pain in the ass.

    OT:

Had my first lesson. Was pretty cool. They sent me a schedule for when I could have lessons but I completely disagree with it. They left like 10 days between my last lesson and the day that I'm leaving the country again. Fucking idiots. I even said "I want it BEFORE August" and that I want the sped up version.

    @[member='Sue']: Okay, way too expensive.

I'm glad you had a great first lesson!
